Can professional scaling damage my teeth and gums?
When carefully done by an experienced dental professional, dental scaling does not damage any enamel or gums. During cleaning of your teeth, your dentist will remove accumulated plaque and calculus and stains from your teeth using an instruments that gently vibrates to remove loosely attached soft deposits ofn plaque and calculus. It cannot damage enamel on your teeth when used correctly. Presence of this plaque is responsible for inflammation and bleeding of your gums. Regular scaling and polishing is necessary to keep these plaque growths under control and minimise gum inflammation
How often should I have my dental check up?
Dental Health guidelines recommend dental check up and scaling to be done once every six months as a general rule. As individuals our dental hygiene needs widely vary., and your dentist may recommend having a professional scaling and polishing of your teeth done more frequently depending upon the tendency to form plaque or condition of your gum health.
